Named for the mythical bird of tranquility, Casa Halcyone is a thoughtful architectural interpretation of coastal Mexican heritage, re-envisioned through the lens of soft minimalism. The residence is a visual study in balance, where the enduring appeal of the regional vernacular meets an aesthetic of quiet, contemporary refinement.
IN PROGRESS
Casa Halcyone is more than a dwelling; it is an environment designed for intentional,
slow living—a physical embodiment of peace on the Mexican coast.
VERNACULAR SHADING
The structure achieves its serene presence through an honest, harmonious contrast of materials. Primary volumes are set in smooth, monolithic stucco, providing a clean canvas that captures and diffuses the tropical light. This is beautifully anchored by the warmth of natural wood: a grand, arched entry is defined by a richly textured, carved door, establishing a sense of handcrafted permanence and depth.
The low-slung, tiled roof and deep, extended wood beam pergolas are not merely decorative; they are functional forms essential for sun mitigation. They cast dynamic shadows and create cool, shaded verandas, seamlessly extending the home's liveable space into the outdoors.

The architectural language maintains its integrity with a focus on essential form and tactile material contrast. The rough, off-white stucco planes and traditional clay-tiled rooflines frame the central outdoor living space, imbuing the scene with a timeless, grounding quality.
A wide, timber pergola extends across the full width of the main volume, providing critical shade and creating a deep, sheltered veranda. This space, designed for slow dining and reflection, is visually anchored by a series of repeating arched windows, which introduce a rhythmic, almost meditative pattern of light and shadow.

The centerpiece is the swimming pool, where the design seamlessly incorporates local textures and colors. The pool features a custom circular design, clad in deep turquoise tiles, which provides a striking, jewel-toned contrast to the surrounding pale stucco and vibrant green lawn. The water's edge softens the hard lines of the architecture, inviting a continuous dialogue between the home and the tropical air.
